Like the movies, the hero of the series is always safe with the power of Mogwa. Galligan likens it to how he views the franchise. “I’m never going to argue against kids watching movies. I think they’re holding up really well,” and compared them to the new show. “I think they sent me the first four or five full scripts so I could look at a little bit of a supporting part, but also get a feel for the tone and what they were going for. You can make cartoons or animated series in all kinds of different ways. You can make them just for kids, or you can make them as complicated as the Bugs Bunny cartoons, where they are equally good fun for adults. There are definitely some things that I think adults will enjoy that can go over kids’ heads.”
Wang is now a teenager, but was actually a child when he joined Gremlins series. “I was only 11 at the time, and I wasn’t really educated on most of the old movies back then. I searched Gremlins and saw a large fan base. So I said. “Okay, okay, I’m really going to try this one.” When I finished booking [the role of Sam], it was a pretty great moment for me.” From the beginning, he was open to mildly frightening scandals. “After reading the script, I’m not going to lie. after seeing that pre-production stuff, it wasn’t that scary. And then when I saw the real scary stuff, I said, “Wow, that’s not what I expected!” It sure pissed me off a little. It’s funny to watch.”
