Description

Japanese chicken yakitori skewers with tender chicken thighs and a sweet-savory tare sauce.


Ingredients

1 pound chicken thighs, cut into bite-size pieces

8 to 10 bamboo skewers

1/4 cup soy sauce

1/4 cup mirin

2 tablespoons sugar

1 tablespoon sake

Green onions, for garnish


Instructions

  1. Soak bamboo skewers in water for at least 30 minutes.
  2. Simmer soy sauce, mirin, sugar, and sake for about 5 minutes to make tare sauce.
  3. Thread chicken pieces onto skewers.
  4. Preheat grill to medium-high heat.
  5. Grill skewers 3 to 4 minutes per side.
  6. Baste with tare sauce as they cook.
  7. Garnish with green onions and serve.

Notes

Soaking skewers helps prevent burning on the grill.
