Today 6th June 2023 Maharashtra Premier League New and Reformed Players Auction took place. It takes place in Pune on Tuesday MPL 2023 auction was quite an interesting event that took place between 6 franchise teams who had already selected their captains and icon players a few days back.
Quite a few players made headlines while others only took their base price, but the most talked about player of the MPL Auction 2023 turned out to be: Naushad Sheikhwhich has been bought by the Punit Balan Group-owned Kolhapur Tuskers, to be led by former India and current Royal Challenges Bangalore player Kedar Jadhav.

Now everyone is probably wondering who this kid is and where he came from. Whereas each team had to select at least 15 players in their team and had a budget / purse of only Rs. 20 lakh each, Kohapur decided to splurge as much as Rs. 6 lakhs just for this one player. Sheikh is an experienced cricketer in Maharashtra who has also played a lot of cricket at the professional level in various formats.
Naushad Shafi Sheikh, 31, was born in Osmanabad and has represented Maharashtra in 35 first-class matches, 37 List A matches and 45 T20 matches as well. His batting records include 7 hundreds and a top score of 152 in the longest format to go with a strike rate of 123+ in his T20 career.

Now we are still not sure why he became the most expensive player in the MPL 2023 auction because he doesn’t do much. The part-timer has 12 wickets for Maharashtra in his T20 career and perhaps the experience of playing in all formats and the dynamics of the auction has made him the most expensive player in the auction.
Several other publications reported “Nauman” Sheikh as the highest paid player in the auction, but it is Naushad and not Nauman. The MPL 2023 season starts on June 15 and we will then see how much this price tag is really worth. Apart from him, others who got a big pay check included Divyan Hinganekar (Rs 4,60,000), Sahil Outade (Rs 3,80,000) and Yash Nahar (Rs 3,80,000).
