US Trade Representative discusses China’s actions against US companies with Chinese minister

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – U.S. Trade Representative Catherine Tay raised concerns about recent Chinese actions against U.S. companies operating in the country during a meeting with Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative (USTR) said Friday.

“Ambassador Tai emphasized the need to address critical imbalances resulting from China’s state-based, non-market approach to the economy and trade policy. He also expressed concern about the PRC. [People’s Republic of China] actions taken against American companies operating there,” USTR said in a press release.

Tai, who met with Wang on the sidelines of the APEC Ministerial Meeting in Detroit, shared the progress made by the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) partners to date and outlined the United States’ priorities for the remainder of APEC’s hosting year. said the release.

He also discussed the importance of US-China trade relations in the global economy and the need for continued cooperation between the two sides, the release said.
