Regular Twitch viewers should know about Twitch Turbo. Twitch’s subscription plan, which allows you to watch streams without all ads, is as important to happiness in life as YouTube Premium. And because of that importance, Twitch will make you pay more for it going forward.
In an announcement today, Twitch says Twitch Turbo will see price increases in many locations and is notifying subscribers. As a subscriber myself, I did receive an email alerting me to the incoming increase, but saying I have a few more months to take advantage of the introductory price before paying more.
For the US, Twitch Turbo increases to $11.99 per month from $8.99. In Canada, the price goes up to $13.99. For a full list of price changes, if you live elsewhere and happen to be reading Droid Life, you’ll find them in this help article.
Due to the price change, Twitch is telling all customers to “Upgrade my Turbo” by subscribing again. That said, they are giving some customers at least three more months of that old price before the new one kicks in. For me, that’s an extension of the $8.99 price until August. I’ll have to update when September rolls around.
Not sure what Twitch Turbo is or why you need it? Well, if you don’t watch a lot of Twitch, you don’t need it. However, if you use the live streaming variety of the platform, I can tell you first hand that it really is a must. the number of ads flooding the platform over the past year is kind of wild.
