“This is just the beginning,” Samuel Chukwueze reacted to winning the La Liga award

Nigerian winger Samuel Chukwueze, in response to his best African player in Spain’s La Liga, has vowed that “this is just the beginning” as he is motivated to do more.

The 24-year-old was named Spain’s African Player of the Year 2022/2023 after a spectacular season at Villarreal on Tuesday 6 June.

Samuel Chukwuzeh scored 13 goals and 11 assists for the Yellow Submarines in the season just ended.

Reacting to the honor for the first time since moving to Spain in 2018, Chukwueze said: “I feel so happy to win this award.”

“I’ve worked very hard this season, but I want to thank my teammates for making this possible. Without them this would not be possible for me as a coach [Quique Setién] too.”

Chukwueze was a bit player under former manager Unai Emery but has been more consistent since Quique Setien took charge at Villarreal.

As for the former Barcelona coach’s influence on his game, Chukwueze praised Setien for believing in his abilities.

When a coach believes in you and gives you the confidence to play and enjoy yourself, it really motivates you.

“But I think I can still do more, I want to keep working hard. I’m still young, so I’m still learning.
