Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has written on the Residency app that he wants his former team Arsenal to win the Premier League this season.
Aubameyang was asked if he believes his former side can lead Manchester City to the Premier League title race. He answered:
“I hope my former teammates deserve it.”
Aubameyang has been successful in north London during his three-and-a-half year stay at Arsenal. He scored 92 goals and 21 assists in 163 games. Gabon was the captain of the team and won the English Cup.
However, his relationship with Mikel Arteta fell apart during his final days at the club. He was also deprived of the post of captain. Aubameyang eventually joined Barcelona as a free agent in January 2022 after Arsenal terminated his contract. He then joined Chelsea last summer.
Meanwhile, the Gunners have stunned everyone with their performances this season as they topped the table for most of the season. However, they fell behind Manchester City after a rough run of form. Arteta’s side have 81 points from 35 games and are one point behind City, who have played a game more than Pep Guardiola’s side.
Aubameyang, on the other hand, has found life difficult in west London after joining Chelsea on transfer window deadline day last summer. He has played sparingly, making just 21 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals and assisting one in the process.
He is reportedly set to leave Barcelona in the summer, who are among the interested parties.
What are Arsenal’s remaining three Premier League games?
Undoubtedly, it is difficult for Arsenal to beat Manchester City in the Premier League title race in the current conditions. However, the Gunners can do their bit and win their remaining three matches and hope City drop points.
Arteta’s side will play Brighton & Hove Albion at home on May 14. They will be back on the pitch on May 20th away against Nottingham Forest. Their final league game of the season will take place on May 28 against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Even if the north Londoners don’t win the Premier League this season, they deserve all the plaudits. Few have been able to push Manchester City’s super team to their limits. Despite being the weaker side on paper, the Gunners did so after finishing fifth last season.
