The new Alone in the Dark starring David Harbor and Jodie Comer is coming in October, the prequel is now free on Steam.

Briefly. If you’re old enough to remember Alone in the Dark, the MS-DOS games of the 90s, and not the later remakes, here’s some cool news: another remake is in the works and will be released on October 25th. It stars Jodie. Killing Eve and Free Guy and Stranger Things star David Harbour. Best of all, the playable prologue is available right now on Steam.

Instead of a timed demo like Dead Space, developer Pieces Interactive released the game’s entire prologue, which is set before the main events and features a young girl named Grace Saunders as she wanders around a mansion.

You can pick up the prequel now on Steam. Reviews are mostly positive, with some complaints about the 16GB installation size for the nearly eleven-minute experience. This seems to be more of a scene intro to set the scene; there’s no fighting or anything, but there are some jumpy moments.

Comer and Harbor play co-protagonists Emily Hartwood and private investigator Edward Carnby (both characters appeared in the original games) who investigate a haunted country hospital known as Derchetto Manor and Emily’s missing uncle Jeremy Hartwood.

Developer Pieces Interactive said the game will change depending on what characters players choose, each interpreting their journey in their own way, reacting to the environment in their own way, and the people of Derchetto will treat Hartwood and Carnby differently.

There are a lot of big names in Alone in the Dark. In addition to the Hollywood cast, it is creatively directed by Michael Hedberg, writer of the horror classic Amnesia. The Dark Descent and the brilliant SOMA. It also features creature designs from Guillermo Del Toro collaborator Guy Davis.

The game has the usual puzzle elements found in survival horror games and promises intense and tough battles where players must use every bullet they can find. There are also melee and throw weapons when you run low on ammo.

There are a number of free (full) games available right now. Fallout: New Vegas is free on the Epic Games Store and Warhammer 40,000. Gladius – Relics of War strategy game is free on Steam.
