[Feb. 18, 2023] PLDT’s Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) wireless unit continues to be awarded the fastest and best mobile network in the Philippines, according to the latest report by Ookla®, a global leader in mobile and broadband network intelligence.
After making history as the first and only mobile operator in the Philippines to win Ookla’s Best Mobile Network for Q1-Q2 2022, Smart has set another record for Q3-4 2022 to win the award in the company report.
To secure this rare and prestigious citation, Smart won both the Fastest Mobile Network and Best Mobile Coverage awards in the same Ookla reporting periods.

The fastest mobile network in the Philippines
A recent report from Ookla found Smart ahead of the competition in speed and coverage scores.
Smart received the “Fastest Mobile Network” with a speed of 62.3, while its closest competitor was rated at 36.36.
To win this category, Smart posted an average download speed of 31.04 Mbps and an average upload speed of 6.8 Mbps, while its closest competitors posted an average download speed of 20.22 Mbps and an average upload speed of 5.13 Mbps.
Widest LTE coverage in the Philippines
Smart also dominated the Best Mobile Coverage category with a Coverage score of 795, beating its nearest competitor’s coverage score of 757. The coverage unit includes both the number of locations where the operator offers service (its territory) and the quality of service in each. location according to Ookla.
The Fastest Mobile Network Award is based on more than 2.9 million user-initiated tests, while the Coverage Award is based on more than 3.4 million scan numbers.
An elite appointment for operators worldwide
Ookla’s report also showed that Smart outperformed competitors in key cities across the country, being the fastest mobile network in Quezon City, Cebu City and Davao City.

As of the end of September, Smart has deployed 77,200 base stations across the country, including 7,300 5G base stations and nearly 40,000 4G/LTE base stations. Smart’s network covers about 97% of the population with 3G, LTE and 5G. It is supported by the country’s widest fiber optic network, which as of the end of September covered more than 1.09 million kilometers of international and domestic fiber optic network.
To enjoy Smart’s fastest speeds and widest coverage, subscribers are encouraged to register their SIM cards under the newly enacted SIM Registration Law.
