KANSAS CITY – New candy formulations are making their way onto grocery store shelves.

Hershey Co. is jumping on the plant-based bandwagon with the latest launch of dairy-free alternatives for its Hershey’s and Reese’s brands.

Made with dairy alternatives like oats, Reese’s Plant Based Peanut Butter Cups and Hershey’s Plant Based Extra Creamy with Almonds and Sea Salt Bar offer a similar melt-in-your-mouth experience to their traditional counterparts while meeting changing consumer needs.

“We’re excited to introduce these delicious, plant-based options,” said Teal Liu, brand manager for Hershey’s Better-For-You unit. “Our goal is to create more moments of kindness for consumers. Those moments are now more accessible to chocolate lovers looking for plant-based alternatives.”

Second Nature Brands also features Reese’s in its latest gluten-free debut, Sheila G’s Brownie Brittle with Reese’s Pieces.

“Our new gluten-free version of Brownie Brittle Reese’s Pieces gives consumers what they want: a new Brownie Brittle. an option that meets dietary needs, plus the rich taste of peanut butter and chocolate brownie,” said Ashley Dawkins, vice president of marketing for Sheila G’s Brownie Brittle. “This new gluten-free version of our Reese’s Pieces line allows our gluten-free consumers to enjoy and celebrate the magic that is Brownie Brittle’s favorite candy.”

The latest sweet innovation to hit the shelves is from B&G Foods. The brand has launched Girl Scouts Thin Mints spice mix, which consists of dark cocoa, peppermint flavor and fine cookie. The sweet and minty spice blend can complement everything from oatmeal to pancakes to ice cream and coffee, according to the company.
