San Diego State’s JD Wicker was named the SBJ Athletic Director of the Year

Courtesy of San Diego State Athletics/SDSU.eduDirector of Athletics at San Diego State JD Wicker was named AD Sports Business Journal of the Year, announced Wednesday night at the 16th annual Sports Business Awards in New York. Wicker became the first athletic director at a Group 5 school to win the prestigious award.

Wicker is coming off one of San Diego State’s most successful years, which began with the opening of the new 35,000-capacity Snapdragon Stadium at SDSU Mission Valley, when the Aztec men’s basketball team reached the national championship game of the NCAA Tournament. had six Mountain West team championships and most recently announced that the San Diego Major League Soccer expansion team would play its home games at Snapdragon Stadium.
