MANILA, Philippines—Rey Nambatak became the second player to be fined by Rain or Shine for playing in an unsanctioned match, described in local terms as “Ligang Labas,” without the team’s permission.
The Elasto Painters said on Wednesday that Nambatak will forfeit “two days’ salary” for “violating its PBA uniform players’ contract by participating in an exhibition game.”
Rain or Shine’s sanction came after Beau Belga was fined for a series of exhibitions, including the infamous brawl against a team of foreign players in Carmen, Cebu.
Belga was fined 15 days salary after also appearing in Davao and Laguna without the team’s blessing.
He, along with NLEX’s JR Quinahan, who was hit during the said scuffle with an opposing team player, Magnolia’s Jio Jalalon and NorthPort’s Robert Bolick are set to be summoned by PBA commissioner Willie Martial next week.
All players face severe sanctions from the league.
PBA rules prohibit players from participating in exhibition games unless they have been cleared by their parent teams.
