We’ve been in our house for 4 years now, and for 3 of those years the entry room, the formal living room, the first thing you see through the front door, has been affectionately called the “soccer room”. which of course was because it was a big empty space where my husband Daniel set a big soccer goal so he could play soccer whenever he wanted. It was very cool for him and very exciting for me. So last year we decided it was time to move the football to the basement and furnish the room. I am so happy with transformation. (Scroll down to the bottom of the post to see the list of where I got the furniture, lamps, curtains, etc.)
Transitional style living room
My home style is transitional, a mix of traditional and modern (contemporary). I am drawn to everything light and bright, neutrals, the underlying quality of warm wood tones and natural woven elements such as jute, wicker and rattan. I love the color blue. And while I enjoy many modern design trends (mid-century clean lines, white couches, neutral color schemes, lots of woven textures), I ultimately want my decor to feel timeless. So I weave traditional, vintage pieces (like mahogany end tables, vintage-looking rugs) into that modern aesthetic because they a.) never go out of style and b.) add richness and character (otherwise, a completely modern look can feel a little cold and flat).
