Orban won the Europa League Player of the Week award

Nigerian striker Gift Orban has won the Europa League Player of the Week award after his hat-trick heroics for Gent on Thursday.

After scoring four goals against Gent Zulte-Waregem in Jupiler, Belgium last Sunday, Orban scored a hat-trick as Gent beat Istanbul Basaksehir 4-1 in the second leg to reach the quarter-finals.

He wrote his name in the record books by scoring the fastest hat-trick in the history of UEFA club competitions.

He scored a hat-trick in three minutes and 25 seconds, eclipsing the UEFA Champions League and Europa League marks.

The 20-year-old also scored Gent’s goal in the first leg in Belgium, which ended 1-1.

He now has five goals in four Europa League games this season.

And declaring Orbán the winner, UEFA wrote on the European Conference League’s Twitter:

Gent will now face Premier League side West Ham in the quarter-finals.
