Manchester United great Gary Neville has said Liverpool remain the team most likely to stop Manchester City’s continued dominance of the Premier League.
Sunday’s defeat of Arsenal at Nottingham Forest sealed City’s fifth Premier League trophy in six years.
Pep Guardiola’s men can become only the second English side to secure the treble as they are in the FA Cup and Champions League finals.
“You have to have a great manager and a great group of players to do what City have done and other clubs should aspire to that,” Sky Sports quoted Neville as saying.
“Right now it’s the team that has proven it [it can challenge City] Liverpool for the last five or six years.
Arsenal have come close to City this year, but the only team I can say has shown they can come close to Pep Guardiola’s City at the moment is Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.
“I know they’ve fallen well short of those standards this season, but [they can] get back to that standard next season because they’ve proven they can do it in the past.”
