The six companies joined the Federation following its annual board election on 18 April. At the election, each new member had one representative join one of the three boards that operate and govern the Liquid Network, namely its membership, oversight, and technical boards.

Liquid announced that the addition of six new members will enable the Liquid Federation to expand its global presence, fostering innovation and opening up new opportunities for users seeking to transact in the Bitcoin financial layer.

Lightning Network is growing its global footprint

The new members all use the Liquid Network in their operations. Bcademy provides Bitcoin related education, training, consulting and custom development services in Italy.

Boltz Exchange is a non-custodial Bitcoin (BTC) exchange and Lightning Service Provider (LSP). It allows Lightning node operators to rebalance their channels with Liquid, reducing operational costs in high-fee environments.

Another new member of the federation, Maven, exclusively deals with the real-world assets of the Liquid blockchain. This was the first marketplace where real estate was traded as a non-fungible token (NFT) with ownership registered to Liquid.

The addition of the six companies to the Lightning Federation comes shortly after Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao (CZ) hinted at the crypto exchange adopting an L2 scaling solution.

CZ said on Twitter Space on June 2 that Binance is actively investigating the integration of the Lightning Network into its exchange platform. However, he emphasized that the implementation process is much more complicated than it might seem at first glance.

The network also said that as the Federation matures, its diverse membership and unique contributions will strengthen Bitcoin’s position as a versatile and affordable financial ecosystem.
