Description

Hot Buttered Rum is a cozy, spiced cocktail perfect for cold evenings. This warm drink blends softened butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, and aromatic spices with spiced rum and boiling water.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3 tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 pinches ground cloves or anise
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch salt
  • 3/4 cup spiced rum (more or less, to taste)
  • 3 cups boiling water (approximately, more or less, to taste)
  • Optional: whipped cream for garnish

Instructions

  1. Using an electric mixer, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground cloves or anise, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt together until all ingredients are well combined and smooth.
  2. Place the prepared butter mixture in the bottom of a pitcher or a large glass measuring cup. Add the spiced rum, then pour in boiling water starting with 2 cups. Whisk the mixture thoroughly until it is fully combined and smooth.
  3. Taste the drink and add more boiling water if needed to suit your preference, aiming for a total of about 3 cups of water. Whisk again to combine.
  4. Pour the hot buttered rum into individual mugs or glasses and serve right away. Optionally, garnish with whipped cream for a richer presentation and flavor experience.

Notes

  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less brown sugar.
  • Experiment with different types of rum for varied flavors.
