- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1/3 cup brown sugar, packed
- 3 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 2 pinches ground cloves or anise
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch salt
- 3/4 cup spiced rum (more or less, to taste)
- 3 cups boiling water (approximately, more or less, to taste)
- Optional: whipped cream for garnish
Instructions
- Using an electric mixer, beat the softened butter, brown sugar, maple syrup, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, ground cloves or anise, vanilla extract, and a pinch of salt together until all ingredients are well combined and smooth.
- Place the prepared butter mixture in the bottom of a pitcher or a large glass measuring cup. Add the spiced rum, then pour in boiling water starting with 2 cups. Whisk the mixture thoroughly until it is fully combined and smooth.
- Taste the drink and add more boiling water if needed to suit your preference, aiming for a total of about 3 cups of water. Whisk again to combine.
- Pour the hot buttered rum into individual mugs or glasses and serve right away. Optionally, garnish with whipped cream for a richer presentation and flavor experience.
