A few days ago, Samsung announced that the FDA has deleted the Galaxy Watch Irregular Heart Rate Notification (IHRN) feature. The new IHRN feature works with the Galaxy Watch EKG feature and tracks heart rhythms that suggest atrial fibrillation (AFib) right from the wrist. Of course, users should be aware that devices like the Galaxy Watch are not a substitute for a doctor.

“We are pleased to announce that the Irregular Heart Rhythm Alert, designed to help millions of people around the world who may not be aware of their potential heart risk, has been cleared by the FDA,” said Hon Pak, vice president and chief. Digital Health Team, MX Business at Samsung Electronics.
According to Samsung, “Cardiovascular disease remains one of the leading causes of death worldwide. AFib, a type of arrhythmia, is widely considered a warning sign of underlying cardiovascular problems that can increase the risk of stroke, heart failure, and other cardiovascular complications.”
The Galaxy Watch offers tools to help users understand their heart health using the Samsung BioActive Sensor. It includes on-demand ECG recording and an HR Alert feature that detects abnormally high or low heart rates. But again, this is in no way a substitute for a doctor. always consult your doctor about your health problems.
Once activated in the Samsung Health Monitor app, the feature will check for irregular heart rhythms in the background using the Galaxy Watch’s BioActive sensor. Suppose a certain number of consecutive measurements are irregular. In that case, the Galaxy Watch alerts the user to potential AFib activity, prompting them to take an ECG using the watch for more accurate measurements.
The irregular heart rate notification feature will be available in the newly announced One UI 5 Watch update.
