Michigan continues to roll on the recruiting trail, and the latest addition to their commitment list is four-star Jerod Smith. The defensive lineman out of Cheshire Academy in Cheshire, Conn., announced his commitment to the Wolverines on Tuesday night, choosing them over Nebraska, Notre Dame and other teams.
“The high level of academics, great coaching and the way they’ve been putting players through the league these past few years has really struck a chord with me,” Smith said. “I felt at home there. I had a great visit and I have a great relationship with the coaches and I’m looking to build on that.
“The constant communication that they offered between me and Coach Elston was huge,” he said. “Since then, we’ve talked every week and every week. The way they involved my mom and dad in the recruiting process was huge.”
Recruiting his twin brother, four-star Jacob Smith, “He’s seen it and he knows what it’s about,” Smith said. “He’s been visiting a few other schools, so maybe he’s looking for something different than me. We are two different people, but I will try to get him to come to Michigan. What brothers wouldn’t want to play with each other? another?
Smith is a very solid interior defensive lineman with strong hand technique and great potential. He’s already pretty strong, but Wolverine’s strength and conditioning will really help him mature physically, which should help him see the field relatively early in his career. Michigan is trying to land Smith’s twin brother, Jacob, as well. They are certainly counting on him to help shoulder the responsibilities of a talented defensive end and help solidify the future of their defensive front.
