Stop suffering, it’s just a skill
The good news is that it stops the suffering, the unnecessary frustration we bring upon ourselves when we DON’T wallow in those hideous emotions, but instead let them hit and kick us to the curb.
In a nation moving toward an approach to emotional and physical health that is a pill for every ailment and a knife for every fight, we do not stop our suffering. We feel better without getting better.

It takes some courage, because if you don’t have the EBT tools, it’s not wise to call on toxic emotions. We’re stuck in that downward spiraling chemical cascade of stress, and who in their right mind would do that?
Get light by trying out the tools
I recently had a cancer scare and was visited by some toxic emotions. In EBT, we use brain states to identify our stress levels because they are physiological and give us an idea of how much cortisol, the miserable chemical, is flowing.
Brain State 5 is the worst and I’ve been there. If I let that state dig in, I would be willing to suffer. I’m EBT trained and the time between hitting brain state 5 and getting to the EBT 5 core skills was about two minutes, then another 3 or so to get rid of those toxic emotions.
