“One month after announcing an expanded partnership with Microsoft, which includes our intent to integrate with Azure OpenAI, we are now announcing an expanded partnership with Google Cloud and our intent to integrate with Vertex AI,” VentureBeat Cohesity CEO Sanjay Poonen told . “We believe Cohesity’s leading data security and management capabilities, combined with Google Cloud’s powerful generative AI and analytics capabilities, will benefit customers as they can gain new insights into the same data that already provisioned and managed on Cohesity’s platform. “.

By integrating Cohesity’s data security and management capabilities with Google Vertex, joint customers can gain fresh insights from the data they already secure and manage on the Cohesity platform. Using Google Cloud’s Vertex AI Large Language Models (LLM), they can quickly search massive amounts of data, identify patterns in data, detect anomalies, find accurate answers, and facilitate rapid data recovery through contextual searches.

“Turing is a rapidly evolving collection of AI/ML capabilities and technologies that are integrated into Cohesity’s multi-cloud data platform and solutions and enable organizations to responsibly bring together AI and their data,” said Poonen. “Through Turing and Cohesity’s platform, organizations have access to a vast array of state-of-the-art AI/ML-powered capabilities to derive exceptional insights from their data.”

The company emphasized that with Turing, customers have full control over their data, just as they currently do with its Cohesity multi-cloud data platform. In addition, using comprehensive role-based access management models, the company ensures that data access is restricted to authorized users and that context-aware responses to user queries match the user’s assigned access level.

Enterprises will also be able to control and ensure the security of their data, regardless of the AI technologies they use.

Enhancing data security and governance through AI

The company anticipates significant benefits for joint customers through the tight integration between Cohesity and Vertex AI. Using the potential of generative artificial intelligence and large language models, the two companies aim to jointly support customers in significantly enhancing data security.

“With so many potential attack vectors and rapidly growing data volumes, in the event of a breach, AI can easily enable collaborative clients to ask natural questions, quickly search exabytes. [of data] and get responses that are virtually instantly readable and human-readable, so IT and security staff can quickly assess risks and operators can streamline their response protocols,” Poonen told VentureBeat. “With AI-enabled eDiscovery, we aim to help customers quickly analyze historical data and help answer important questions.”

Poonen said Cohesity indexes backup data, including custom metadata that enables that data to be used in LLMs.

“Just as Cohesity’s duplicate data is stored and searchable for threat analysis, it’s also AI-ready, so when a person asks questions about the data through LLM, the answers are designed to be human-readable and readable. functional,” he said. “Using authoritative data sources powered by Cohesity can help provide more accurate answers to user or machine queries.”

The company says Turing provides organizations with state-of-the-art AI capabilities to increase operational efficiency, gain deeper insights into security risks and unlock greater value from data. These capabilities include advanced modeling and data entropy detection, machine learning models trained on millions of samples for threat intelligence, classification of sensitive data, and machine recommendations for predictive capacity planning.

“With Cohesity Turing capabilities in our Cohesity DataHawk SaaS offerings, enterprises can detect threats and expose sensitive data. They can simplify threat detection with one-click scanning and automated threat feeds updated daily,” Poonen said. “ML-based data classification helps detect and accurately classify sensitive data so customers can determine if there has been unauthorized use or access and assess the impact of an attack. Analyzing user activity logs helps identify suspicious behavior and actions that may be signs of fraud or theft.”

Cohesity’s ML-based engine handles the classification of sensitive data such as personally identifiable information (PII) and PCI- and HIPAA-protected data. This will allow businesses to quickly assess the effects of ransomware attacks or other cyber incidents.

Poonen emphasized that his company excels at regex pattern matching by using BigID’s ML-based classification engine, which includes named entity recognition and natural language processing techniques.

In addition, it uses established and validated patterns for comprehensive global search capabilities, including a large collection of over 235 pre-built patterns covering commonly found personal, health and financial data. Enterprises can incorporate these patterns into custom policies, making it easier to identify sensitive data and ensure compliance with regulatory and privacy requirements.

The future of AI-based security infrastructure capabilities

Poonen emphasized that Cohesity’s state-of-the-art data security and management platform features an “AI-ready” architecture, and that it is designed to ensure seamless retrieval and maintain a comprehensive database of files across varying workloads and timeframes.

He said such a design allows AI and LLMs to quickly respond to critical business queries while ensuring that only authorized individuals receive responses related to the data they have access to.

“The development of Cohesity’s search additive generation (RAG) models, for which we have patents pending, represents a remarkable advance in the field of knowledge-based conversations,” he added. “Using the power of multiple documents and incorporating conversational topic and local context, these models can generate informed, diverse and relevant responses.”

He detailed the growing importance of streamlining business processes and operations for organizations, emphasizing that AI is naturally becoming an integral part of these efforts. However, the company acknowledges the significant risks associated with disclosure of sensitive data and intellectual property.

“AI is kind of like a gold rush. Everyone is talking about ‘gold’, but no one is focusing on tools and security,” Poonen said. “Consolidation is focused on building the tools and security to maximize gold-digging organizations.” Cohesity Turing will bring together RAG, responsible AI and governance to safely and responsibly unlock the power of AI and data.”
