Despite arriving at Chelsea for a transfer fee of £58m, Christian Pulisic has been linked with a move in 2023.
Where does the USMNT attacking midfielder go after essentially being pushed aside by Chelsea’s new signings?
Christian Pulisic Transfer Rumors 2023
Stay in the Premier League
Once in the Premier League, it will be difficult to come back, especially as Pulisic is still only 24 years old. She spent her formative years in England and has the fortunate status of a native speaker of the language.
If Leeds United stay in the Premier League, he will be able to link up with fellow Americans Tyler Adams and Brenden Aaronson. However, their league status may not be enough to attract a player. Newcastle United have flirted with a move for Christian Pulisic in 2023, as have West Ham. The latter will allow him to remain in London, where he has established a base since 2019.
Manchester United were apparently interested in signing Pulisic back in January, but nothing came of it. Given the inconsistencies at Old Trafford, Erik ten Haag could rely on the USMNT player in multiple positions. In fact, Pulisic reportedly grew up supporting and watching Manchester United. Could a dream move be on the cards?
Go to Italy
Much of the talk surrounding Christian Pulisic’s transfer in 2023 seems to suggest that many Serie A clubs are interested in the American. Chief among these is that Chelsea are keen to include the player in a swap and cash deal in their bid to sign Victor Osimen from Napoli. Joining the Italian champions at Diego Armando Maradona’s stadium would surely be a good career move for him. Furthermore, he will play a major role in the depth of the team’s overall depth, providing real competition on the wings for Hirving Lozano.
Other Pulisic transfer news suggests that Pulisic could join Juventus or AC Milan. While neither left his shop with an official bid, Olivier Giroud was reportedly very happy at the prospect of playing with the American again. The move fell through in January, but Milan definitely need more quality players who have been depleted at the end of the season.
Juventus could be an attractive option as Weston McKenney is set to return after his loan spell with Leeds. Oh, and of course being the biggest club in the country historically. Some stories detail that Juventus’ scouting team have long loved Pulisic’s looks. With aging players like Juan Cuadrado and Angel Di Maria in his position, Pulisic would be more than enough of a replacement to help Allegri’s side return to the pinnacle of Italian football.
Go back to Germany
It’s hard to believe that Pulisic is still only 24 years old. This is because of his typical Croatian name for years when he was a teenager. Back when he was breaking through the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund. While Pulisic’s current transfer news has avoided any hints of a return to Germany, it would make sense for the player to return to the league where he enjoyed so much success. Better yet, he mastered the language during his first tenure in the country.
A return to Borussia Dortmund could be an option, but there are limited players still remaining at the club following his departure. Marco Reus, Rafael Guerreiro and Mahmoud Dahoud could celebrate his return, but the club’s squad has changed dramatically in his absence. Head coach Edin Terzic, however, will be a familiar face as he previously worked as an assistant. Dortmund could be interested in a move if they part ways with Jude Bellingham in the summer.
“Bavaria” of Munich is always a destination for players. For Pulisic, it also provides an incentive to work with Thomas Tuchel again. Pulisic previously featured heavily at Tuchel’s Dortmund and enjoyed some football under the German manager at Chelsea. Playing for Germany’s biggest club and under a favorable manager is a big draw for a player.
Play in Major League Soccer
There will be a part of Pulisic’s mind that will think. “Why not take home a substantial pay packet?” He would instantly become one of the best players in MLS right now. With talk of him leaving Chelsea, he suddenly found himself among MLS targets during the summer transfer window. During a tour of the USA with Chelsea, he previously stated that he was delighted that the sport was growing in his home country. Is playing in front of his countrymen a career goal?
Both LAFC and the Los Angeles Galaxy are keen on signing the former Dortmund man. The 2023 MLS Cup champions are bidding big, while the latter look to make Pulisic their next Beckham-style signing. Both would see Pulisic take a major role in these Hollywood clubs, which could be very desirable for his wallet and ego massage.
Although he hasn’t played for his local MLS team, the Philadelphia Union could play with a player like Christian Pulisic right now. He would be able to come in alongside or slightly behind Daniel Gazdag. Thus, allowing the Hungarian to go forward more often while the American supports and covers.
