Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together shortening, peanut butter, and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in milk, vanilla extract, and egg until well combined.
  3. In a separate medium bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto prepared baking sheets, about 2 inches apart.
  6. Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are set and centers are still soft.
  7. Let cookies cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
