Callum Hudson-Odoi has revealed that he was not in regular contact with Chelsea during his loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen.
The 22-year-old struggled for game time under Thomas Tuchel last season and was allowed to join Leverkusen on loan in August.
Chelsea have since bolstered their attacking options with the signings of Mihajlo Mudric and Noni Madueke in the January transfer window, casting further doubt over Odoo’s future at Stamford Bridge.
The winger is out of contract at Chelsea this summer and Arsenal are believed to be among the clubs looking at a cheap deal at the end of the season.
‘I haven’t spoken to them [Chelsea] for a long time,” says the author. Sky Sports quoted Hudson-Odo as saying.
“Because I’m not there, I can’t say or do anything because I see all these players leaving. At the end of the day, I’m focused on the club and doing everything I can to help.
“I have no idea what will happen in the future. I can only focus on what is happening here.
‘After all, you have to stay optimistic. Regardless, he is always smiling. You can’t stress about things whether they are going well or badly.
“You also feel more confident and good on and off the ball when you smile.”
Hudson-Odoi also believes his loan spell at Bayer Leverkusen has improved his attacking play.
“I haven’t been that direct in the last two seasons,” he says. Hudson-Odoi explained.
“So I felt like I could be more direct on the ball, try to create more problems for the defense.
“This season I’ve felt that I’m getting my sharpness back and I’m creating problems, taking people back, trying to create chances and trying to score and assist.”
