This recipe makes classic chocolate chip cookies that are soft and chewy.

- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 large eggs
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups chocolate chips (semi-sweet or milk chocolate)
- 1 cup chopped nuts (optional, such as walnuts or pecans)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla extract until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
- Stir in the chocolate chips and nuts (if using).
- Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Drop rounded tablespoons of cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheets, leaving space between each cookie to allow for spreading.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are just set.
- Remove from the oven and let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for about 5 minutes before transferring them to wire racks to cool completely.
- Serve warm or store in an airtight container for later enjoyment!
Notes
- For chewier cookies, refrigerate the dough for 30 minutes before baking.
