“Ant-Man and the Wasp. Quantumania” post-credits scenes explained

Ant-Man and the Wasp. Quantumania hit theaters on Friday, kicking off Stage 5: that Marvel Cinematic Universe Sending shape-shifting superhero Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and his family on an intense, colorful journey into the Quantum Realm. That’s the third solo Ant-Man: ride, the 31st MCU film overall and has post-credits scenes that will blow your mind.

Quantumania is a lot of fun that takes a charming gang of goofball heroes plunged into a world of the weird and wonderful to confront a villain big enough to change the entire franchise.” – CNET’s Rich Knightwell. wrote in his review. “The plot may be nothing groundbreaking, but the twisty visuals and interesting themes prove that bigger isn’t always better.”

The quest puts Scott Lang at the crossroads of Kang the Conqueror (Jonathan Majors), a time-traveling supervillain from the distant future who is teased as the next big threat for the avengers. Let’s try to find out the additional scenes and what they mean for the MCU. Versatile SPOILERS before

Medium Credits: Kangxi Council

After this movie’s Kang is absorbed into the core of a malfunctioning multiverse engine, a trio of Kang Variants discuss gathering their multiverse counterparts. Two of these guys resemble the ancient Egyptian ruler Rama-Tut and the timeline pruner Immortus as they appear in the comics, while the cyborg-looking guy may be based on the armored Scarlet Centurion.

They are upset that the Avenger killed Kang, whom they exiled to the Quantum Realm, and that the heroes touch the multiverse, a supposed reference to Spider-Man; Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and: What if…?

“And if we let them, they’ll take everything we’ve built,” says a furious Immortus, who seems to be the leader of the trio. “So let’s stop wasting time, we’re late!”

He says that he called “all of us”. Their palace opens up to reveal a vast arena full of Variations, with stalls of branching timelines, seemingly infinite temperaments and types, through even more time portals.

It seems stagnant. What does this mean?

Our heroes will face an army of Kangs who want to take over the multiverse. However, the Kang Variants we met in the Loki season 1 finale and this movie hinted that these guys don’t really get along, possibly due to their megaman tendencies, so any alliance would likely be shaky.

The same applies comic source material, where one Kang, Kang Prime, worked with some Versions to eliminate their counterparts. He then killed those allies and replaced them with robot doppelgangers to ensure his control over all timelines. However, it didn’t really work out for him, as schemes that involve managing multiple realities tend to get out of hand.

It will probably be the same with the MCU, but the fact that Avengers: Kang dynasty slated for a May 2025 theatrical release suggests he (or they) will have some success. This movie’s Kang could come back because the versatile engine core could spit him out somewhere (or somewhere) instead of killing him.

Post credits. The Hunt for Loki

We jump to the early 1900s to find our old friends Locke and Mobius (Tom Hiddleston and Owen Wilson) looking even better as they attend the stage show of Victor Timely, a guy who looks exactly like Kang.

“Timing is everything,” Timely says with supervillain gravity. “It shapes our lives, but maybe we can shape it.”

Loki seems impressed by this guy, but Mobius is less than impressed.

“You made him sound like a scary character,” says the Time Variance Authority (TVA) agent.

“He is,” Loki replies.

Loki, hurry! Why is he in this?

When did we last see Loki? season 1 finale of his Disney Plus showhis female version, Sylvie, threw him into a time portal and killed the One Who Remains, the Kang version who controlled the flow of time and prevented the branches.

The death of the Timeline Dictator restored the multiverse, and He Who Remained, versions of himself controlled by his efforts, were able to riot again.

Loki ended up in the seedy TVA offices, where he tried to warn Mobius about the threat of multiple Stands.

“Someone is coming. Countless different versions of a very dangerous man,” he tells Mobius and company. “And they’re all going to war. We have to prepare.”

However, this version of Mobius cannot remember Loki. There’s also a statue of Kang, wearing his comic garb, towering over the TVA; it appears that the God of Evil has been sent to a timeline where the agency is controlled by the Kang Variant, which is great at allowing for timeline branching.

A post-credits scene in this film suggests that he has convinced Mobius to join him in hunting down Kang.

But why is Loki after Victor Timely?

It’s unclear why Loki is hunting this particular Kang Variant, but it’s possible that he’s a version of the character from earlier in his career. He might try to stop a villain’s career before it starts.

Once again, “Avengers: Endgame”! The upcoming Kang Dynasty movie suggests that it won’t go smoothly. We’ll probably find out more here Loki season 2which is slated to hit Disney Plus this summer.

In the comics, it’s Victor Timely an identity assumed by Kang Prime after he returned in 1901 and founded the town of Timely, Wisconsin, as a safe haven from which he could hatch his plans. He also implemented his futuristic technology into all kinds of vehicles, planning to take control of it later in the timeline. It also gave him a fundamental role in the development of the Marvel Universe.

The name is also a bit meta, as the company we know as Marvel Comics was founded as Timely Publications in 1939. It was only started by Marvel in the 60s.

It’s possible that the MCU Timely is also this continuity’s Kang Prime and lurks in an era where he can plan acts of villainy long before the Avengers exist to bother him. That would explain why Loki is chasing her.

This guy could also be the same Kang we met in Ant-Man and the Wasp. In Quantumania (the final battle left his fate uncertain) – it would have been more satisfying narratively if the version of the character we spent time with (ha) turned out to be Kang Prime.

Another wrinkle is that comic Kang could be Fantastic Four’s Reed Richards/Mr. The fantastic and villainous Doctor Doom (in-universe records are unclear though). As the super team is set to debut in the MCU in 2025it can bend in this connection.

It’s hard to be sure what’s up with all these Kangs when they all have the same face. At least it keeps the door open for Jonathan Majors to dominate the MCU.
